A Separate Peace WebQuest

A Raisin in the Sun WebQuest

A Separate Peace, John Knowles' novel of boys growing up at an exclusive boarding school, explores several different kinds of characters: the cynic, the nonconformist, the elitist, and the iconoclast. Your job will be to assemble the evidence that reveals just what it means to be one of those types of people. Four of the characters, Gene, Finny,Leper, and Brinker Hadley fit the profile of the above types of people. It will be your task to figure out which type of person they are and defend that choice in your presentation.

You may also create a project that has to do with one of the themes in the book: change, innocence vs. experience, order vs. rebellion, friendship, competition,

or another theme that you think is important.

If you have another topic for your quest, ASK me, and chances are, I will approve it as long as you can show the connection to the novel.

This purpose of this project is for you to demonstrate how well you understand the concepts we have been talking about in class, and how well you make that understanding your own. You may choose one of three ways to complete the project:  construct a web page, do a PowerPoint presentation, or do a traditional paper.

Whichever type of project you choose must have at least three sections: An analysis of the character, or theme, you have chosen, a collection of artifacts from the Internet that explain the personality type of your character, or theme, and, finally, a collection of artifacts that relate to you as the personality type, as well as to the novel, or your personal connection with the theme. If you think there are other sections that your project needs, feel free to include them. While it would be nice if the artifacts came from the time period of the novel, it is not required, but you must be able to relate each artifact to the novel.

Here are some things you could include in your project to show you understand the concepts:

  • Quotes or sayings of famous people of the personality types.

  • Biographical sketches of famous people of the personality types.

  • Pictures of people who fit the personality profile.

  • Song lyrics or clips of songs that fit the personality profile.

  • Editorials or letters to the editor that fit the personality profile.

  • Anything else that you find that you feel is appropriate for the project.
